Amazon.co.uk Review
Pure. Popcorn. Entertainment. That's an exact classification of director Michael Bay's Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. The action is nonstop, with battles and explosions from start to finish. The camera (without any subtlety) exploits Megan Fox's hotness to the max. As if she weren't enough, a new sex kitten (Isabel Lucas) is thrown into the equation. Shia LaBeouf is as charismatic as ever, and fills the starring role with ease. And then there's the humour. Sam's parents (Kevin Dunn and Julie White) provided some semi-raunchy laugh-out-loud moments in the first movie, but now they take it to the next level. Sometimes it seems like they are trying a little too hard, but it is still hilarious.

As far as the “plot” goes, the writers didn't waste much time--it's really just a context for the giant-robot death matches and dramatic slow-mo sequences. The movie kicks off two years later where the Autobots have formed an alliance with the U.S. government, creating an elite team led by Major Lennox (Josh Duhamel), in an effort to snuff out any remaining Decepticons that show up. The bad guys keep coming, and it turns out that a much more menacing force than Megatron is out there--and it is looking for something on Earth that is tied to the very origin of the Transformers race. Fans of the franchise will be delighted by the addition of many new robot characters (there are well over 40 in the sequel, versus only 13 in the first). The second Transformers has shaped up to be one of the worst reviewed and most successful movies of all time. This strange pairing is really just an indication that this movie has one purpose: to entertain. The creators didn't want to waste time bogging down the action and drama with substance--which was arguably a good decision. --Jordan Thompson

5 out of 5 stars a more complete movie than the first   March 7, 2010

while i gave the first movie perfect marks for sheer entertainment, this sequel is actually a more complete film,in my opinion,as much as this type of movie can be.for one,the story is actually much more interesting and more developed.the humour quotient is upped in this one as well.there are quite a few chuckles.some of the transformers are really neat, especially on the Decepticon side.the fight scenes between the Transformers are quite spectacular, though that isn't surprising.what is surprising is that the transformation scenes(when the vehicles change into their robot forms and vice versa were not seamless, and looked herky jerky to me.in the original film, this was not an issue.still,it's immensely entertaining.and despite a few minor issue.a better movie overall.as an aside, the movie is nominated for a Razzie Award for worst movie, which mystifies me.it's nowhere near Razzie calibre.oh,well.for me,Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is a 5/5

2 out of 5 stars Poor sequel   March 2, 2010

After watching Transformers, I was looking forward to this movie when I heard that the Autobots would be working with the military hunting down rogue Decepticons, I mean, how cool does that sound? When I found out the main bad guy would be an ancient Transformer looking to destroy the world, I was worried because Megatron should ALWAYS be the bad guy and when I saw Revenge of the Fallen, I was deeply disappointed, not least because Megatron is made out to be a simple lackey to the big bad guy.

The film spends an hour showing how Sam is now going to college, introducing his conspiracy nut room mate who is perhaps the most annoying character in ANY Michael Bay movie I have ever seen, and shows Sam being hit on by a Terminator, no wait sorry, human form Transformer. WHY were they focusing on this when they could have shown the Autobots shooting the hell out of the Decepticons, especially when they had so many cool looking new characters like Sideswipe, Sideways and Arcee? That being said however, two new Autobots are introduced and they appeared to be even more racist than Jar Jar Binks from the Star Wars prequels, and they were just as annoying to watch.

The plot is messy and key plot points are left unexplained, old and new characters are wasted and the film relies so heavily on CGI that the Transformers fight sequences are a literal blur of metal and you can't tell what's going on or who's winning. The main focus of this film seemed to be Megan Fox, not that I'm complaining but you don't watch Transformers for the girls, you watch it for explosions and robots beating the hell out of each other.

Transformers was a good film that had potential to spawn great sequels, but I hope they think of something a LOT better if they make another film, because this was a poor effort.

This is one of the worst movies I haven't seen yet. I thought the first one was alright if a little drawn out but my friend gave me the low down on this one so that's why I'm giving it one star. Lets hope there won't be a third installment.

Long, boring, it takes an age for the action to start, and even then it makes no sense, is incredibly stupid and silly. The people who rated this the worst film of 2009 were probably right. Watch Terminator 2 instead, now that's how you make a sci-fi action film.

5 out of 5 stars This is so GOOD!   February 23, 2010

Thi film is really great, i seen so many people give it 1 star and i just think how? Is this better than the first, maybe not, is it worse than the first, definetly not. It is just as good with a few extra comedy moments through in, if you liked the first you will love this!!!
