Amazon.co.uk Review Arguably the best blockbuster of summer 2009, J.J. Abrams’ reboot of the Star Trek saga has made for pulsating big screen entertainment. And in retrospect, it was an amazing achievement. It opened up the franchise to those who would usually give it a wide berth. It weaved in plenty from the Trek universe to satiate fans. And it proved to be an exciting, effects-laden and action-packed extravaganza that left you positively salivating for the sequel.
But its work wasn’t done when it left cinema screens. For when Star Trek arrived on Blu-ray, it instantly catapulted itself right near the top of reference-standard discs. With a stunning, gleaming picture that crackles with detail, and a house-rumbling surround sound track that matches the heftier moments with more subtle work, the disc is an all-round delight.
Furthermore, it’s also jammed full of extras, and refreshingly, the majority of the supplements you get with Star Trek are also presented in high-definition. It’s a shame that has to be highlighted as an exception to the norm. Star Trek, nonetheless, offers a terrific example of how things should be done.
For ultimately, Star Trek is not just one of the best and most exciting blockbuster films of the last few years, it’s also one of the very best Blu-ray discs to date. It’s an unmissable release, and add us to the list of those avidly awaiting the sequel. --Jon Foster

amazing!September 3, 2010 Sanjiv Dale action packed story that doesn't let up from the start. I am a trekkie and was very much looking forward to seeing how this new re-imagining coped. the idea of a new timeline waas brilliant concept. I went to the cinema to watch this when it came out with a lot of people who were not trekkies and were expecting to be bored. All of them said it was the bestt movie they had seen that year.
The DVD is brilliant and packed with features.
Poor. This is not `Star Trek'September 1, 2010 Drummer 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'll be honest- This movie was bad. Without a doubt the worst Star Trek one out there. But there's the thing, this is so mutated in its form here that it isn't really like Star Trek. Yes, it has a few back references and sly in jokes, but it is way too modern and flashy to be kept in the same league as the others.
The effects are good but you don't care about them, it is all effects and no real substance. Flashy, lots of shakey camera and lens flare, it is more like a modern action film than part of the Star Trek franchise. The story isn't top quality either, and this "alternate universe" thing is a way to get more license to do what J.J Abrams wants with sequels.
The casting is sub par also. McCoy and Spock were good, but Kirk, Scotty,Sulu Uhura and Chekov were not. And these are important, recasting the originals is so important, but has not been done well. Yes, Kirk got into fights in the old series and films, but he was never a young "thug" like this. He was philosophical, unlike this one. Scotty is nothing like Scotty. Uhura neither looks, sounds or acts like Uhura. Sulu is also poor and Chekov lacks any physical similarity to Walter Koenig's original.
This was very poor. It has none of the soul of the old original Star Trek's, they were about morality and had relatable characters and stories, this does not.
QualityAugust 30, 2010 A. R. Turner(Newport, South Wales UK) The latest Star Trek movie is a must see and not just for "Trekky" fans. It is a really good film with some cracking action scenes. Obivously being a fan helps with the story line and some of the humour but it is still a good watch for all.
too modern for meAugust 23, 2010 T. Breed(Bucks England) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I 'half' enjoyed this DVD. I thought the cast were very well chosen and the storyline quite clever BUT...... it was far more like 'star wars' than 'star trek'. Sorry but these modern special effects just do not appeal to me (I have never liked Star Wars!)
I missed the pace of the original Star Trek and the banter between the crew. I do however appreciate that this film was made for a young and modern audience and must appeal to their tastes (and not those of an 'original' fan) Also the fact that they had a lot more money to spend on this than they did on the original series - but it all whizzed about a bit too quick for me!!!
Star Trek videoAugust 23, 2010 Mick Nick(United Kingdom) As a Star Trek fan really enjoyed this D.V.D telling the story of the original Star Trek crew before they came together to crew the Enterprise, Kirk, Bones,Spock,O'Hura,Chekov and Scotty etc. A must for all followers of Star Trek, very well done and first class service from Amazon.Buy it.
