Amazon.co.uk Review Arguably the best blockbuster of summer 2009, J.J. Abrams’ reboot of the Star Trek saga has made for pulsating big screen entertainment. And in retrospect, it was an amazing achievement. It opened up the franchise to those who would usually give it a wide berth. It weaved in plenty from the Trek universe to satiate fans. And it proved to be an exciting, effects-laden and action-packed extravaganza that left you positively salivating for the sequel.
But its work wasn’t done when it left cinema screens. For when Star Trek arrived on Blu-ray, it instantly catapulted itself right near the top of reference-standard discs. With a stunning, gleaming picture that crackles with detail, and a house-rumbling surround sound track that matches the heftier moments with more subtle work, the disc is an all-round delight.
Furthermore, it’s also jammed full of extras, and refreshingly, the majority of the supplements you get with Star Trek are also presented in high-definition. It’s a shame that has to be highlighted as an exception to the norm. Star Trek, nonetheless, offers a terrific example of how things should be done.
For ultimately, Star Trek is not just one of the best and most exciting blockbuster films of the last few years, it’s also one of the very best Blu-ray discs to date. It’s an unmissable release, and add us to the list of those avidly awaiting the sequel. --Jon Foster
A great surpriseMarch 7, 2010 May Williams(London UK) I watched this with my kids, who are not 'trek' fans, and they loved it. I remember the original stark trek and thought this a great update of the series and a good piece of entertainment. For some reason some people have found the Spock & Uhura relationship a bit of a stumbling block but I did not and found if perfectly natural. Granted, I had to watch it twice to get my head around some aspects of the plot but this only increased my enjoyment.
There are some good extras including a rather excitable commentary. Worth the money - I look forward to the next one.
PerfectMarch 6, 2010 T. K. Hudson(England) This set is amazing. The film is absoloutly increadible which is then quadroupled by the stunning visuals provided on blu-ray. Its chock full of great special features and the third disk transfers the film to you ipod so you can watch this big screen marvel anywhere!
Star Trek X1March 4, 2010 Mr. T. Middleditch(Kent. U.K.) Great CD. Carries on the Star Trek tradition. At first I thought it was O.T.T., but after watching it a second time I thought this was possibly how Kirk was when younger.
Worth the price.

a boys night inMarch 2, 2010 Paul Wherton Watching this dvd on a big plasma screen made for an excellent night in with the boys. Everyone loved it and together with a chineese take away was an exceptional Friday night in.Plenty of action to keep our interest going.
Superb Blu-ray film - a logical choice, captainFebruary 25, 2010 Pundit(England) I'm not a Trekkie, in fact this is the first Star Trek film I have ever seen; my knowledge of the concept and characters is based on the original TV series from the 1960s and 1970s with William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy. And perhaps because of that, I understood what was going on right from the start - this story shows James Tiberius Kirk being born (in space, of course) and his rise through the Starfleet Academy through to his ultimate role of Captain of the Starship Enterprise. I thought the way the producers, director and everyone else involved managed to merge the old with the new was really good, it mixed a degree of welcome nostalgia with cutting edge CGI and cinematography in such a way that it should please everyone from 12 year olds to grumpy old farts like me.
As a Blu-ray film, this was mesmerising from start to finish and it made me feel that my already large Panasonic HD monitor wasn't big enough to show everything in all the glory it deserved; it frequently had me wishing that I had seen it at the cinema. It's a big film in every sense and it needs to be seen on the best equipment to get the most out of it. A superb high definition transfer, one of the best I have seen.
I forget the name of the young Mr Spock, but what an extraordinarily good choice he is! He actually looks like Spock would have looked at that age (mid-twenties I guess). Of course the 'real' Spock - Leonard Nimoy - has a cameo in the film which only adds icing on the cake. All the familar names are there - Kirk, Spock, Bones, Scotty, Chekov, Mr Sulu and Miss Uhura, most if not all of them perfectly cast relative to their ancestors of 40-odd years ago.
The pacing is good, the script sharp and witty and there's a great mixture of drama, humour and adventure throughout. They did well to pack so much into the finished product and still keep it a reasonable length at two hours seven minutes. A very entertaining film for all the family with a little bit of everything, one that is even better than the sum of its many excellent parts. Without a doubt this is a great re-working of a familiar story, brought up to date with respect to its origins but also bang up-to-date in terms of style and impact. An achievement its makers can be justly proud of.
