Product Description "In 1997, the behind the scenes story of the British and Irish Lions Tour of South Africa was captured on camera for the first time the documentary Living with Lions is acclaimed as one of the greatest sports films ever made. Now, 12 years on, the Lions are back in South Africa and so is the film crew, recording every minute of what is arguably the most demanding contest in all of sport - The Lions against the Springboks in their own backyard. With absolute access to all areas of the Lions squad Living with the Pride is the most intimate and intense portrait of the life of a Lion. From the Bagshot training camp to the magnificent final test victory in Johannesburg, Head Coach Ian McGeechan and his pride of Lions worked closely with the film crew to make an astonishing, compelling documentary. With access to every man, team, management and selection meeting; every training session as well as the passion, fury, joy and pain of the dressing room, it is uncompromising and riveting the ultimate test of courage and character... no one has been this close before. Sometimes hilarious but more often brutal, bruising and bloody its exhilarating, emotional and often controversial and this is the real behind the scenes story of one of the most remarkable sports tours ever."
Living with the PrideJanuary 31, 2010 David J. Rhodes(Preston, Lancashire) Considering the length of the Tour the DVD covered I thought it was a really good review and had a good balance between the rugby action, behind the scenes activity and player portrayal. Other DVDs will cover the Test and match action in detail but this `is what it says on the box`.Brings out the tension of the Test matches and the intensity of the coaching team as well as the bonding and man management required for a successful tour. The Lions are totally unique and long may they last. I was lucky enough to be out there for two weeks and if you get the chance to go DO IT!!!. Absolutely fantastic experience not to be missed.
great insiteJanuary 29, 2010 Marc Mcardle great programme very interesting the levels that professional teams go to, would have liiked to have seen a bit more humor
Lions should be proudJanuary 25, 2010 S. Thomas(Brixham, Devon) A really good insight into how the British and Irish Lions were chosen to go to South Africa. The team talks, meetings and team buildings were given by those with so much experience and dedication that you could feel you were part of the squad. You could also feel for them when decisions didn't go their way, and in some cases the unfairness of them too. Each squad member should feel proud of their part in the tour, and although we all knew the result of the games before watching the film, you still felt they were going to win the first two tests. Excellent film.
Compliments from Bloemfontein.January 20, 2010 Kl Mould(Bloemfontein, South Africa) As a rugby-loving South African, I have always had tremendous respect for the British and Irish Lions. It is an honour for us to have them in South Africa, and I don't think that will ever change.
I was somewhat surprised by coach Ian McGeechan's comment on the dvd that the Afrikaners respect nothing the Lions stand for. Look, the Afrikaners are a unique and colourful people, but the majority of them have always respected the Lions. I had the honour of meeting former Lions captain Gavin Hastings on the morning of the first test in Durban, and when he asked me where my Springbok supporters' shirt was, I just told him that whomever wins today, I'd be content.
A brilliant DVD with a sad undertone. LONG LIVE THE BRITISH AND IRISH LIONS!
