Trivia: Cinqué Lee, Spike Lee's brother, plays the Bellhop pictured on the wall in the prison room and appears as a hallucination. This may be an in-joke to the Jim Jarmusch film Mystery Train (1989) where he also played a Bellhop. Spike Lee and Jarmusch are good friends and were former film students at NYU (Jarmusch directed Lee siblings as well in Coffee and Cigarettes II (1989). See more »

Cinema used to be so captive. Only ten years ago there were a number of
interesting stories being told. Now, in America at least, story-telling
has stalled. It's all about making something new, when new means a
re-telling of old.
And thank goodness for Asian cinema. Brave enough to try new themes and
directions; unerring in this task for many a year.
If you have seen the 2003 Korean (original) film - part of the
Vengeance Trilogy - you'll know that this film is not required.
I have no problem with Josh Brolin, but Hollywood seems to have lost
its way somewhat.
A waste of your time, when the original is so excellent.
