User Review

Decent for Hollywood Horror.

Rating: 7/10

Based on the advertisements which repeatedly reminded us that this movie is from the producers of "Paranormal Activity" and "Insidious", one would assume at first we will be treated to another actually 'good' horror movie. I honestly expected another masterpiece like "Sinister" but with aliens. Or "Insidious" but with aliens. The Insidious prediction was close, but still not enough to make this as great as the mentioned movies.

The plot is simple and basically given away with the trailer. Couple is somewhat happy with their children. Bumps in the night happen. Kids act strangely. Research is done and they realize their is an alien presence among them who is trying to influence their children or possibly abduct them. An expert is called in for further help. Then the bumps in the night happen more frequently toward the end like most Horror films of this nature.

The movie was okay. The directing is average. Some shots were cleverly done though. Surprisingly the acting is pretty decent. Though no one is going to get an Oscar, for the most part the acting was believable. The cinematography was creepy and again, decent. Gave the film an eerie vibe like in "Sinister". I will say that their were a lot of slow scenes that didn't have a huge pay off. The music was typically screechy in an "Insidious" way. The producers obviously just wanted to cash in on the success of the aforementioned films rather than make another great horror classic.

This isn't a bad or good movie. Its worth a see, but don't expect anything crazy. It will scare you, but it won't stick with you like "Insidious" and "Sinister". The jump scares are obvious, but still manages to make you jump. I will point out that their are well directed scenes with the aliens that reminded me of a really creepy scene in "Insidious". Again, just the producers trying to make money off of that movies success. The ending is messed up, but not messed up enough to be 'remembered'.

If you see this movie, don't expect to see another "Insidious" or "Sinister". Don't let your guard down though, there are a few scenes that will make you nearly drop your popcorn or snack.
